ABOUT IAS

Swami Vivekananda had said that God could be best served through service to mankind.
He had wanted a man-making religion, man-making theories and all-round man-making education. Accordingly, the new Institute of Advanced Studies aims at education based on values, ethics and aesthetics and application of science, technology and humanities for improving the quality of life, especially of the weaker sections. The focus of education and research will be on employment generation, self-employment and entrepreneurship. This Institute will serve as the nucleus for the realization of the proposed Vivekananda National University.

The Institute is now located in a 10 acre plot at Agarpara, 15 Km. off Kolkata which is the proposed campus of the University being planned. The campus has four ponds of a total area of about three acres, numerous trees, several office buildings with office, classroom and conference facilities and a few laboratories. A hostel building, a Guest House with a canteen and special laboratories with state-of-art facilities are under construction. The Institute can have collaborative projects also at other locations where two dozen centers of the Mission exist. It proposes to have collaborative projects with several national institutes and laboratories of excellence.
